MCP Server

The Forminit MCP server lets AI apps work with your Forminit account through the Model Context Protocol. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Antigravity or another MCP client, sign in with your Forminit account, and ask in plain language: “show me today’s contact form messages”, “how many signups came from Germany last month”, “create a form and add it to my Next.js site”.

https://api.forminit.com/mcp

This is the only URL your AI app needs. It signs you in with OAuth: you log in to Forminit in your browser and approve what the app may do. No API key is involved.

Use Cases: Triaging new submissions, finding a submission by email or name, counting submissions by day, country or device, creating forms and connecting them to your code, finding failed notifications or integrations, changing form settings.

Every client below uses the same URL and the same sign-in. You never need an OAuth client ID, a secret or an API key: each app registers itself with Forminit when you sign in.

Forminit is listed in Claude’s Connectors Directory.

Forminit Form Backend

One-click OAuth install

The form backend for websites, apps and AI agents

Connect in Claude
  1. Open Forminit Form Backend in the Claude directory, or find it in Claude under Customize → Connectors.
  2. Select Connect, sign in to Forminit and approve.
  3. In a chat, select +, then Connectors, and turn Forminit on.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner first adds Forminit for the organization under Organization settings → Connectors, then each member connects their own Forminit account from Customize → Connectors.

If you connected Forminit in Claude, it’s already in Claude Code. When you sign in to Claude Code with your Claude account, it loads the connectors from that account: run /mcp and Forminit is listed as claude.ai Forminit Form Backend. This works in the terminal, VS Code, JetBrains and the Claude desktop app.

To connect it now, open Forminit Form Backend in the Claude directory, select Connect, sign in to Forminit and approve. Then run /mcp in Claude Code.

If Claude Code uses an API key, Amazon Bedrock or Google Cloud instead of your Claude account, it doesn’t load connectors from Claude. Add Forminit directly:

claude mcp add --transport http forminit https://api.forminit.com/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code, select forminit and sign in in the browser. Add --scope user to the command to use Forminit in every project, not just the current one.

If you add Forminit both ways, Claude Code uses the server you added with claude mcp add and hides the connector. To use the connector instead, run claude mcp remove forminit.

  1. Open ChatGPT Plugins, select +, then Add custom MCP server.
  2. Enter a name such as Forminit, and https://api.forminit.com/mcp as the server URL. Choose OAuth for authentication.
  3. Review the warning, select I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin. Sign in to Forminit and approve.
  4. In a new chat, type @ and select Forminit.

Custom MCP servers depend on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings. In a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, an admin may need to allow them first. See OpenAI’s guide to connecting a custom MCP server.

Codex (CLI, IDE extension and ChatGPT desktop app)

Section titled “Codex (CLI, IDE extension and ChatGPT desktop app)”
codex mcp add forminit --url https://api.forminit.com/mcp
codex mcp login forminit

The Codex CLI, the Codex IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share this setup, so you add Forminit once. The command writes this entry to ~/.codex/config.toml, which you can also add by hand:

[mcp_servers.forminit]
url = "https://api.forminit.com/mcp"

Install in Cursor opens Cursor and adds Forminit. To add it by hand, put this in ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or .cursor/mcp.json in a project:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "forminit": { "url": "https://api.forminit.com/mcp" }
  }
}

Then select the connect button next to Forminit in Cursor’s MCP settings and sign in. See Cursor’s MCP documentation.

Install in VS Code opens VS Code and adds Forminit to your profile. To add it to one workspace instead, put this in .vscode/mcp.json:

{
  "servers": {
    "forminit": { "type": "http", "url": "https://api.forminit.com/mcp" }
  }
}

You can also run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette and choose HTTP. A browser window opens to sign in to Forminit the first time VS Code connects. See VS Code’s MCP documentation.

Add Forminit to ~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json to use it in every project, or to .agents/mcp_config.json in one workspace:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "forminit": { "serverUrl": "https://api.forminit.com/mcp" }
  }
}

No oauth block is needed. Then sign in:

  • Antigravity app: open Customizations → Installed. Under MCP Servers, select Authenticate next to forminit and sign in to Forminit in your browser. Paste the authorization code you get into Enter authorization code and select Submit.
  • Antigravity IDE: open … at the top of the agent panel, then MCP Servers → Manage MCP Servers, where View raw config also opens the file.
  • Antigravity CLI: type /mcp to open the MCP manager.

See Antigravity’s MCP documentation. Google replaced Gemini CLI with Antigravity CLI in June 2026, so Gemini CLI users follow these steps too.

Any client that connects to remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP and signs in with OAuth works with the same URL, https://api.forminit.com/mcp. Clients that support only local (stdio) servers, or only API keys, can’t connect.

When you connect, your browser opens Forminit’s consent page. It shows the app’s name, where you will be sent back to, and what the app will be able to do. You approve or deny the whole list. The page shows only the rows for what the app asked for, and Show details lists each permission in full.

On the consent page What the app can do
See your workspaces and forms See the workspaces you belong to and your role in them. List the forms you can open and their submission endpoints.
Read submissions and form activity Read submissions of forms you can open, which may contain personal data. Read those forms’ logs and workflow activity to find delivery, spam protection and workflow problems; messages may mention submitters.
Update and delete submissions Mark submissions read or unread, star them and change their status. Move submissions to the trash or back, and permanently delete everything in a form’s trash, including its files.
Create and edit forms and create workspaces Create forms and change their settings (name, status, access mode, retention, allowed domains), in your account and in workspaces where your role allows it. Create workspaces that you own, within your plan’s workspace limit.

Every connection also acts on your behalf, so the app never gets more access than you have in the dashboard: it sees only the forms and workspaces you can open, with your role’s permissions and your plan’s limits.

Desktop and command-line apps such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and VS Code receive the sign-in on your own computer. For them the consent page adds a red warning, because any program running on your computer could pose as the app, and it asks you every time they sign in. Approve only if you started the connection yourself a moment ago.

Search and filters on submissions work on forms that use the current API. Older forms list their newest submissions without filters.

Show the newest submissions of my Contact form.
Find the message from jane@example.com and summarize it.
How many signups did we get per country in the last 30 days?
Mark the three newest submissions as read and star the first one.
Set this submission to in progress and add a note: "Called back".
Check my forms for problems and tell me what is failing.
Create a form called Waitlist and add it to my Next.js app.
Only accept submissions to the Waitlist form from example.com.

  • Your permissions, your limits. The app works as you, with your role in each workspace and your plan’s limits, exactly like the dashboard.
  • Confirmation before changes. Every tool is marked as read-only or as changing data, and the ones that change or delete existing data are marked destructive, so apps such as Claude ask you before running them. Emptying a trash also needs the exact number of submissions you confirmed.
  • Submissions are data, not instructions. Text in a submission comes from your website’s visitors. The server labels it as visitor input so the AI app treats it as data. Still check what the app proposes before you approve a change.
  • No API keys. The MCP server can’t create or read API keys. Keep keys out of client-side code and out of AI chats.
  • Visible changes. Changes an AI app makes to a form appear in that form’s log, for example “Claude used forminit_update_submissions through MCP (3 item(s)).”

Open Account & settings → Integrations → Connected AI apps in the dashboard. Each connected app shows its permissions and when you authorized it. Select Revoke to disconnect it at once.

Access tokens last one hour and the app renews them on its own. An app you don’t use for 30 days has to sign in again. To change an app’s permissions, revoke it and connect again.

Problem What to do
The app can’t connect or sign-in fails Check that the URL is exactly https://api.forminit.com/mcp, then connect again.
A tool is missing or says a permission wasn’t granted Revoke the app in Connected AI apps and connect again to grant the permission.
Filters on submissions return an error Filters work on forms that use the current API; list the newest submissions without filters instead.
Creating a workspace fails Workspaces are included on the Business plan.
The consent page shows a red warning Expected for desktop and command-line apps. Approve only if you started the connection yourself.
The app can’t reach the server on a work device or network Your organization may block external MCP servers. Ask your IT team to allow api.forminit.com and app.forminit.com.
The app asks for an OAuth client ID or an API key Leave the client ID empty: the app registers itself. If it only accepts an API key, it can’t connect, because the server signs in with OAuth only.

For anything else, email info@forminit.com or use the contact page.

Which plans can use the Forminit MCP server?

Section titled “Which plans can use the Forminit MCP server?”

Every plan, including Free. The AI app has the same plan limits as your dashboard: for example, creating workspaces needs the Business plan, and on the Free plan the app sees the same submission history as your dashboard.

No. It sees only the forms and workspaces you can open in the dashboard, with your role’s permissions, and only what you allowed on the consent page. It reads data when you ask for something that needs it.

Only with the permission to delete submissions. Moving submissions to the trash can be undone. Emptying a trash is permanent, so the app first tells you how many submissions are in it and asks you to confirm that number.

No. Forminit never sees your conversation. For each tool call it keeps metadata only (which app, which tool, the outcome, the form and the time, plus the error for failed calls) and deletes it after 90 days.

Open Account & settings → Integrations → Connected AI apps in the Forminit dashboard and select Revoke next to the app. The app loses access at once.

No. API keys are created by you in the dashboard. They are never available through the MCP server, and you should never paste one into an AI chat.
