GoDaddy Website Builder Contact Form with File Uploads, Spam Protection and an Inbox

GoDaddy's built-in Contact Us form emails each message to one address and keeps a copy in GoDaddy Conversations. Forminit gives any GoDaddy site a form with stored submissions, 25 MB file uploads, spam controls, several recipients and integrations, and it works in the HTML section without JavaScript.

Summary

GoDaddy Websites + Marketing's Contact Us form emails each message to one address, takes attachments under 10 MB per file and keeps messages in GoDaddy Conversations. Its HTML section runs custom code in an iframe and blocks most scripts, so this guide uses a plain HTML form that posts to Forminit with no JavaScript and redirects to a thank-you page. You get a searchable inbox, 25 MB uploads, spam filtering, several recipients and Google Sheets, Slack and webhook steps.

GoDaddy sells several ways to build a site, and each handles forms differently. Websites + Marketing is the classic Website Builder: templates, sections, a built-in Contact Us form and an HTML section for custom code. Airo AI Builder is a separate prompt-driven product with its own hosting, database and code editor. Managed WordPress and Airo for WordPress run ordinary WordPress. The older GoDaddy AI Website Builder (discontinued on 31 July 2026) moved its customers to Websites + Marketing, so most “GoDaddy website builder” questions are about that product.

The built-in Contact Us form does the basics: it emails each message to one address, accepts attachments if you switch them on, and keeps a copy in GoDaddy Conversations. It has no documented spam setting, no export, no integrations and no automatic reply. When people outgrow it they reach for the HTML section, and that is where the surprises start: GoDaddy renders custom code inside an iframe and, by its own troubleshooting page and several widget vendors’ accounts, blocks most scripts.

Forminit sidesteps that. A Forminit form is plain HTML that posts to Forminit; it needs no script, so it works in the HTML section as it is. Forminit validates the fields, stores the submission in an inbox, keeps the files, filters spam, emails everyone who should know, redirects the visitor to a thank-you page and runs whatever integrations you set up.

Does GoDaddy Website Builder have a built-in contact form?

Yes. The table compares what GoDaddy documents for the Websites + Marketing Contact Us form with what changes when the form posts to Forminit instead.

Script restrictions are reported by Juicer (July 2026), Embeddy and FullContact; Jotform says custom JavaScript needs a Business or Commerce plan. “Not documented” means GoDaddy’s help centre does not describe the capability for this form; it does not mean GoDaddy will never add it.

How Forminit works with GoDaddy

The page is served by GoDaddy. The form inside the HTML section sends its data to Forminit as an ordinary browser form post, with no script involved. Everything after that happens in Forminit, which then redirects the visitor to the thank-you page you chose.

Visitor fills the form inside the HTML section on your GoDaddy page
        │
        ▼
POST https://forminit.com/f/YOUR_FORM_ID (plain HTML form post, target="_top")
        │
        ├─ validate every field (email format, file size, required values)
        ├─ run spam checks (built-in filtering plus the honeypot field)
        ├─ store the submission and any files in your inbox
        ├─ run the form's Workflow: email notifications, autoresponder,
        │ Google Sheets, Slack, Discord, webhooks, status changes
        └─ redirect the visitor to your thank-you page (HTTP 302)

The form uses Public authentication mode: it accepts submissions without an API key, which is the right choice for anything that runs in a visitor’s browser. Stored submissions stay private. Public forms are rate limited to 1 request per 5 seconds per IP address, which is invisible to real visitors and slows down bots. Never paste an API key into a GoDaddy page; keys belong in Protected mode on a server you control.

Set up a form on GoDaddy Websites + Marketing

1. Create the form in Forminit

  1. Sign up at app.forminit.com and create a form.
  2. In Form Settings, set the authentication mode to Public and copy the Form ID.
  3. In Form Settings → Redirections, choose where visitors land after submitting: a page on your GoDaddy site (for example a thank-you page you add in the builder) or Forminit’s own thank-you page with your heading, message and optional Google Analytics or Tag Manager IDs. Without JavaScript this redirect is the confirmation the visitor sees, so set it now.
  4. In Workflow, check that the Send email notification step lists everyone who should receive submissions. Add CC or BCC recipients if more than one person follows up.

2. Add the HTML section and paste the form

  1. Open the site in the Websites + Marketing editor and go to the page where the form belongs.
  2. Add a section, search for HTML and select Add.
  3. Paste the block below into the Custom Code field and replace YOUR_FORM_ID.
  4. Set Forced Height to a value that shows the whole form, for example 560 pixels, or leave it blank for automatic height and check the result in Preview. A height of 0 removes the section.
  5. Preview, then Publish. GoDaddy shows a placeholder for custom code inside the editor; the real form appears on the published page.
<form action="https://forminit.com/f/YOUR_FORM_ID" method="POST"
      enctype="multipart/form-data" target="_top"
      style="display:grid;gap:12px;max-width:520px;font-family:inherit">
  <input type="text" name="fi-sender-fullName" placeholder="Full name" required
         style="padding:12px;border:1px solid #d9d9d9;border-radius:6px;font:inherit">
  <input type="email" name="fi-sender-email" placeholder="Email" required
         style="padding:12px;border:1px solid #d9d9d9;border-radius:6px;font:inherit">
  <select name="fi-select-topic" required
          style="padding:12px;border:1px solid #d9d9d9;border-radius:6px;font:inherit">
    <option value="">What is this about?</option>
    <option>Quote request</option>
    <option>Booking</option>
    <option>Something else</option>
  </select>
  <textarea name="fi-text-message" placeholder="Message" rows="5" required
            style="padding:12px;border:1px solid #d9d9d9;border-radius:6px;font:inherit"></textarea>
  <label style="font-size:14px">
    Attach a file (optional)
    <input type="file" name="fi-file-attachment" multiple style="display:block;margin-top:6px">
  </label>

  <!-- Honeypot: hidden from people, filled in by bots, rejected by Forminit -->
  <input type="text" name="_gotcha" tabindex="-1" autocomplete="off"
         style="position:absolute;left:-9999px;width:1px;height:1px;opacity:0">

  <button type="submit"
          style="padding:12px 18px;border:0;border-radius:6px;background:#111;color:#fff;font:inherit;cursor:pointer">
    Send message
  </button>
</form>

Three attributes do the work. action and method="POST" send the form to Forminit without any script. enctype="multipart/form-data" lets the file field travel with the submission. target="_top" makes the browser follow Forminit’s redirect in the main window rather than inside GoDaddy’s iframe, so the visitor sees your thank-you page at full size.

The input names matter. Forminit stores fields named fi-{blockType}-{name}, so fi-sender-email becomes the submitter’s email, fi-select-topic becomes a dropdown whose answers are counted in Analytics, fi-text-message becomes the message and fi-file-attachment becomes the stored files. Inputs with other names are ignored, except _gotcha, which is the honeypot. The full list of block types is in the Form Blocks reference.

3. Publish and send a test

  1. Open the published page, not the editor preview, and submit a test message with a small file attached.
  2. You should land on the thank-you page you chose in step 1.
  3. Check the submission in your Forminit inbox, download the file from it, and check the notification in your email.

Submissions from a Forminit form do not appear in GoDaddy Conversations. They live in Forminit, which is where search, statuses, notes, exports and file downloads are. If you also keep the native Contact Us section on another page, the two run side by side.

Optional: inline success messages with the SDK

If you would rather show a message under the form than redirect, the Forminit SDK can submit in the background and display the result. That needs a <script> tag inside the HTML section, and GoDaddy’s builder may not run it on your plan. Paste the SDK version from the Hostinger guide into a test section on a published page; if the inline message appears after a test submission, keep it, otherwise stay with the plain form above. The plain form is the dependable path and loses nothing except the inline message.

GoDaddy Airo AI Builder

Airo AI Builder makes a contact form from a prompt, emails each message to the address you give it and shows messages in the Airo Inbox. It also has a code editor, so you can point it at Forminit instead. Replace the Form ID and paste this into the chat:

Build a contact form with full name, email, topic (select) and message fields.
Connect it to Forminit for form submissions.

formId: YOUR_FORM_ID

Use this integration skill guide: https://forminit.com/skills/forminit-react/SKILL.md
(For a plain HTML project use https://forminit.com/skills/forminit-html/SKILL.md instead.)

The skill file tells the builder about the fi-* field names, the SDK and error handling, so the first attempt usually works. If it names a field email instead of fi-sender-email, the submission arrives empty; paste the field naming section from the Form Blocks reference into the chat and ask it to fix the names. Airo’s native form keeps messages in the Airo Inbox and can save them to a leads table if you ask; a Forminit form keeps them in the Forminit inbox with uploads, spam controls and integrations, and Forminit sends the email from its own infrastructure, so the sender-domain requirement for Airo’s own notifications does not apply.

WordPress on GoDaddy hosting

On Managed WordPress and Airo for WordPress, paste the Forminit SDK and your form markup into a Custom HTML block, a page template or a shortcode, following the WordPress guide. Forminit sends the notification emails, so the Managed Hosting plugin’s PHPMailer conflict and the SMTP plugin workaround do not come into it.

Web Hosting (cPanel) and hand-coded sites

A plain HTML site on GoDaddy Web Hosting uses the HTML guide: the same form markup as above, with or without the SDK. There is no server-side mail script to maintain.

Add file uploads

The form above already includes a file field. Any fi-file-* name works, and multiple lets a visitor attach several files:

<input type="file" name="fi-file-attachment" multiple>

Visitors can attach up to 25 MB per submission across all files. Forminit stores the files and shows download links in the inbox and in the notification email; nothing is mailed as an attachment, so large files never bounce. File uploads are included on the Free plan with 100 MB of storage. Limits, accepted types and troubleshooting are in the file upload guide. GoDaddy’s own form caps each attachment at 10 MB and all attachments at 15 MB.

Stop spam without JavaScript

Every Forminit form gets built-in spam filtering with nothing to configure. Spam submissions are kept out of the inbox and do not run the Workflow, so no notification goes out for them. Because GoDaddy’s HTML section may not run scripts, start with the two layers that need none:

  • Honeypot: the hidden _gotcha field in the form above. Bots fill it, people never see it, and Forminit rejects any submission that contains it. You can rename the field in Form Settings if bots learn the default name.
  • Authorized domains: only pages on your domain can submit to the form. If submissions from the HTML section are rejected after you enable it, the iframe is not passing your domain along; leave it off and rely on the other layers.

Where scripts do run (Airo AI Builder, WordPress, hand-coded sites), add Cloudflare Turnstile, reCAPTCHA v3 or hCaptcha from the dashboard; each adds a small widget tag inside the form and the linked guides show the exact lines.

What happens after someone submits

  • Inbox. Every submission is stored with its fields, files, time, country and city. Search the full text, mark entries Open, In progress, Done or Closed, add internal notes and star the ones that matter.
  • Email. The notification goes to every address in the Send email notification step, with CC and BCC. Set the Reply-to to the visitor’s email and replying from your mail client just works. Nothing depends on GoDaddy’s mail delivery or the Conversations allowlist.
  • Thank-you page. The redirect you set in step 1. Forminit’s hosted page takes your heading, message, button and Google Analytics or Tag Manager IDs, so form conversions can be tracked without touching GoDaddy.
  • Autoresponder. On Pro and higher, send the visitor a confirmation with your own wording and attachments.
  • Integrations. On Pro and higher, add Workflow steps for Google Sheets, Slack, Discord, webhooks and Zapier, and route submissions with If / else conditions: a quote request can go to sales in Slack while a booking goes to the calendar sheet.
  • Analytics. Select, radio and checkbox answers are counted on Pro and higher. UTM parameters and ad click IDs are captured by the SDK, so a plain HTML post records the submission without campaign attribution.
  • Export and API. Download CSV or read submissions through the REST API on Pro and higher.

The Workflow guide covers the steps, conditions and retry behaviour.

Troubleshooting

  • The form does not show on the published page. Check that the section’s Forced Height is not 0 and that the code uses HTTPS URLs. GoDaddy’s troubleshooting page suggests raising the height if a block appears empty. Custom code never renders inside the editor; publish and look at the live page.
  • The form shows but Send does nothing. Confirm the action URL contains your Form ID and the form’s authentication mode is Public. A missing target="_top" would still work but would show the thank-you page inside the section.
  • A field is missing from the submission. Its name does not start with fi-. Rename it following the Form Blocks reference.
  • Submitting twice in a row returns an error. Public forms accept 1 request per 5 seconds per IP address. Wait a few seconds between test submissions.
  • A file was rejected. Check that the input name starts with fi-file-, that enctype="multipart/form-data" is on the form tag, that the total size is under 25 MB, and that the type is on the accepted list in the file upload guide.
  • No email arrived, but the submission is in the inbox. Check the recipients in the Send email notification step and your spam folder. The submission is safe either way.
  • Submissions are rejected after enabling Authorized domains. The HTML section’s iframe may not pass your page address to Forminit. Switch Authorized domains off and keep the honeypot and built-in filtering.
  • The SDK version shows nothing. GoDaddy’s builder blocked the script. Use the plain form above.

Frequently asked questions

Does GoDaddy Website Builder have a built-in contact form?

Yes. Websites + Marketing sites come with a Contact Us section whose form sends messages to the email address you set, with an optional email marketing opt-in and optional attachments. You can add fields by name and input type, but the email field and the Send button cannot be removed. Messages also appear in the GoDaddy Conversations inbox. There is no documented spam setting, export or integration, which is where a form backend like Forminit comes in.

Where do GoDaddy contact form submissions go?

To the email address saved in that form's settings, or to the primary address on your GoDaddy account if you never set one, and to the GoDaddy Conversations inbox, where each message keeps its fields, attachments and your replies. Mobile alerts need the Conversations app, which GoDaddy limits to paid Conversations plans and US customers. A Forminit form keeps every submission in the Forminit inbox and emails as many people as you like.

Why am I not receiving GoDaddy contact form emails?

GoDaddy's own checklist: look in the spam folder, allowlist mail.conversations.godaddy.com as a safe sender, and confirm that the address in the form's settings is the one you are checking, because each form can send to a different address than your Websites + Marketing contact email. Third-party mailboxes such as Gmail or Zoho sometimes filter these messages. With Forminit the submission is stored before any email is sent, so nothing is lost while you fix delivery.

Can I add a custom or third-party form to GoDaddy Website Builder?

Yes, through the HTML section: add a section, choose HTML, paste your code into the Custom Code field and set a Forced Height. GoDaddy renders that code inside an iframe and, according to its troubleshooting page and several widget vendors, blocks most external scripts. A Forminit form avoids the problem because it is plain HTML that posts straight to Forminit; no script tag is needed.

Does JavaScript work in GoDaddy's HTML section?

Not reliably. GoDaddy's help says the section accepts HTML, CSS and JavaScript, but widget vendors report in 2026 that external scripts are blocked and that iframe embeds are the accepted alternative, and an older vendor guide says custom JavaScript needs a Business or Commerce plan. Treat scripts as optional: the Forminit form on this page works with JavaScript off, and you can add the SDK later if a test on your published page shows scripts running.

Can visitors upload files on a GoDaddy contact form?

The native form can accept attachments if you switch them on: each file must be under 10 MB and all attachments together under 15 MB, and they travel with the message. A Forminit form accepts up to 25 MB per submission; files are stored in Forminit with download links in the inbox and the notification email instead of being mailed as attachments. File uploads are included on the Free plan with 100 MB of storage.

How do I stop spam on a GoDaddy contact form?

GoDaddy's Contact Us help page does not describe a CAPTCHA or spam setting for the built-in form, and its server-security article warns that unprotected forms get abused. A Forminit form gets built-in spam filtering automatically, plus an invisible honeypot field you can paste in without JavaScript. Cloudflare Turnstile, reCAPTCHA v3 and hCaptcha are also available when scripts run on your page. Spam never reaches your inbox or triggers an email.

Can I send GoDaddy form submissions to Google Sheets, Slack, a CRM or a webhook?

Not with the built-in form; GoDaddy documents email and Conversations delivery only. With Forminit, each form has a Workflow where you add steps such as Send to Google Sheets, Send Slack notification, Send Discord notification or Send webhook, and route submissions with If / else conditions. Those steps are on the Pro plan and higher. Email notifications and conditions are on every plan.

Can I export GoDaddy contact form submissions?

GoDaddy's Websites + Marketing help pages do not document a submissions export; messages live in the Conversations inbox and in your email. Forminit keeps every submission with no time limit, and on Pro and higher you can export CSV, read submissions through the REST API, and set a per-form retention period.

Can I notify several people or send an automatic reply from a GoDaddy form?

The built-in form sends to one address per form. Forminit notifications go to as many To, CC and BCC addresses as you need, and the Reply-to can be the visitor's email so your team answers from their mail client. The autoresponder step on Pro and higher sends the visitor a confirmation with optional attachments, and it only runs for submissions that pass validation and spam filtering.

What about forms in GoDaddy Airo AI Builder?

Airo AI Builder creates a contact form from a prompt, sends each message to the address you name and shows it in the Airo Inbox; you can ask it for a confirmation reply, a CC address or a leads table. It has a code editor, so you can also give it your Forminit Form ID and the skill file URL and let it wire the form to Forminit for the inbox, uploads, spam controls and integrations. Note that the separate GoDaddy AI Website Builder (discontinued on 31 July 2026) is not the same product.

My WordPress site on GoDaddy hosting is not sending form emails. Does Forminit fix that?

Yes, for the form at least. On GoDaddy Managed WordPress the usual cause is the hosting plugin interfering with PHPMailer, and the usual fix is an SMTP plugin with an external mail service. A Forminit form bypasses WordPress mail completely: the SDK and your markup post to Forminit, and Forminit sends the notification. The WordPress guide covers classic themes, shortcodes and headless setups.

Is a GoDaddy form with Forminit free, and where is the data stored?

Forminit's Free plan includes 1 form and 100 submissions per month with file uploads, 100 MB of storage, built-in validation, spam protection, email notifications and an unlimited submission archive. No credit card is required. Submissions and files are stored on AWS servers in Ireland (EU); Forminit is registered with the UK ICO and provides a Data Processing Agreement. The HTML section itself is a GoDaddy paid-plan feature.
